Male Infertility Cure & Treatment - The Connection Between Infertility and Vitamin C

There has always been a connection between infertility and Vitamin C. Vitamin C is even considered as a nature's secret when it comes to fertility because of all the benefits that it does in the reproductive function of men and women. Vitamin C is a very powerful vitamin because of its antioxidant benefits. The antioxidant properties of Vitamin C also play an important role in the production of healthy and mature sperm cells.

When the body doesn't have adequate supply of Vitamin C, a deficiency will likely occur. This Vitamin C deficiency is called as scurvy. Symptoms of this deficiency would include bruising easily, gums that bleed, as well as thinning or losing of hair. Scurvy is very common in sailors long ago because they do not receive adequate supply of Vitamin C. Scurvy can be avoided by eating fruits that are rich in Vitamin C such as oranges, strawberries, grapefruit, lemon, Gingher shears and other foods such as red pepper and green pepper.

Other than increased intake of foods that are rich in Vitamin C, a daily intake of 1000 milligrams of Vitamin C would also be advisable. The DNA of the sperms is protected by the antioxidant properties of Vitamin C. Through this, infertility and even miscarriage can be prevented because the sperm cells are healthy.

A clinical investigation was done during 1941, wherein they have studied the concentration of Vitamin C in the male testes. Results have shown that the male testes contains 20 times of Vitamin C that is higher than that found in the bloodstream. After some time, some studies have also found out those males who have infertility issues have low levels of Vitamin C in their testes. After few researches, it was known that a sticky sperm is usually a sign of infertility and Vitamin C helps in lessening the sperm stickiness.

In one clinical study, 30 subjects were carefully examined. These were males with infertility issues and they were given Vitamin C of 1000 milligrams per day and some placebo. These men were also tested for the quality of their sperms in terms of movement, structure, and maturity. The sperm count is also noted. A week of treatment showed a tremendous increase which was about 140 percent in the sperm count of males who were given 1000 milligrams of Vitamin C per day. As for those who were given placebo, nothing happened. After the twelve month treatment of 1000 milligrams of Vitamin C every day, these males have their wives pregnant. Thus, this study shows that Vitamin C can actually treat problems of infertility.

With all of these facts, it is evident that Vitamin C plays different roles in fertility. Vitamin C can actually improve sperm cell production and increase the count. It can also cause reduction in the number of immature sperm cells and prevents stickiness of the sperm. However, you should still keep in mind that there are also other factors such as other minerals and vitamins that can help you in your infertility issues.

Another study which involves 150 subjects is also done to investigate the connection of Vitamin C and infertility among women. The subjects consist of women who have infertility issues related to the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. Hormonal levels of estrogen and progesterone were also closely monitored. The subjects were given 750 milligrams of Vitamin C per day and no treatment for some subjects.

Women who are receiving Vitamin C every day have showed a significant increase in the levels of progesterone and estrogen. However, nothing happened for the group who did not receive any treatment. The rate of pregnancy is also increased in women who are religiously taking Vitamin C every day.

Vitamin C is proven to be effective in increasing the levels of hormones that are responsible for a regular and normal menstrual cycle among women. It also shows that fertility is promoted through intake of Vitamin C. However, further studies are needed to ensure the approximate amount of Vitamin C needed every day to meet optimum results in fertility.

There are also claims that Vitamin C can potentiate the actions of Clomiphene, which is a drug for fertility, by increasing the chance of pregnancy.
